Service Bulletin: Pump Rotation and Coolant Air Purge

  • Range of Affected Units: Power Modules with serial numbers whose first 4 digits are between 1993 and 2003

  • Required Action: Repair Upon Failure

  • Required Technician Level: ChargePoint Certified Technician

  • Failure: Air in the coolant lines prevents correct coolant pump function, which causes the station to stop charging vehicles. The station displays a fault on the touchscreen. The fault can occur either at new station installation or when Power Modules are replaced.

  • Repair Summary: Rotate the coolant pump if not already done. Use the provided tubing and hand pump to purge air from the coolant lines. Refill coolant reservoir.

Before You Begin

RISK OF SHOCK. Some stations share DC power (paired configuration). Pairing should be marked on the AC disconnect or breaker panel. Before performing this procedure, check for pairing and, if present, disconnect the power to BOTH stations at the service panel. Whether Standalone or Paired, follow standard practice and local code to de-energize the applicable circuit and lock out/tag out the disconnect before proceeding. Use a multimeter to test that power is off. Keep power off for this circuit until all cover panels are correctly reinstalled and the work scope is completed. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE.

You must be a licensed electrician and complete online training to become a ChargePoint certified installer. If you do not complete training, you cannot access the ChargePoint network to complete installation. Find online training at: https://www.chargepoint.com/partners/training-certification. If the charging station is not installed by a ChargePoint certified installer, using a ChargePoint approved method, it is not covered under warranty and ChargePoint is not responsible for any malfunctions.
Use low torque settings when working with power tools during installation or servicing. Over-torquing can damage the equipment.
Do not install or service the charging station in inclement weather. If you work in snow, rain, or wind, you must use a weather-proof shelter that covers all boxes and components.
When you service a charging station, ChargePoint recommends taking a photo before removing each part, so you can refer to the photo when reassembling.

  • Coolant line pump kit (provided by ChargePoint), that contains:

    • 1 pre-assembled bulb pump attached to 12 mm clear tubing with 12 mm spring hose clamps and quick disconnect valves

    • 1 jug of glycol coolant

  • Headlamp

  • Step ladder

  • #2 Phillips screwdriver

  • T20 Torx driver

  • T25 Torx security driver

  • Right-angle socket with #1 Phillips screwdriver bit, such as MulWark Mini Ratchet Wrench or similar

  • 5-6 lint-free absorbent cloths

  • Zip ties
