Create Tax Rule

Suite enables you to configure tax rules that will be applied to charging stations activated in your organization. To create a tax rule, complete the following steps:

Fields marked with * are mandatory.

  1. Log in to ChargePoint CMS Suite in the role of Network Manager, Station Manager, or Depot Manager.

  2. Navigate to Finance > Tax Rules.

    If you already have tax rules configured in your organization, this page will show the tax rules in a table view.

  3. Click + Create and enter the following details:

    • Organization: Select the organization you would like to configure. Make sure that the charging stations are activated.

    • Rule name: Enter a name for the tax rule that you would like to use for your own tracking purposes, such as HST, GST, QST, etc.

    • Description: Enter a description for the tax rule. The description is not displayed to the end user.

    • Display text for driver: It is recommended to enter the name of the tax followed by your company tax ID, for example: “GST # 1234567890”.

    • Tax type: Select the tax type you want to configure (Sales Tax, Excise Tax and Fee).

    • Applies to: Specify what the tax applies to. Select one of the following from the drop-down list: Entire Price, Energy, Session Fee, Time While Charging, Time While Not Charging, Entire Session Time.

    • Rate: Enter the rate for the tax, as a quick reference, you can get the sales tax rate for your province from here.

    • Unit: Specify the unit to define the rate. If the tax should be expressed as $/kWh, change the unit from Percentage % to $/kWh.

  4. Set the Status to Enabled when you are ready to enable this tax rule on your stations.

  5. The Customer Tax Rule ID is an optional field that you can use for your reference. It is also not displayed to the end user.

  6. Tap Next to save the basic information and move on to adding stations.

  7. Select filters to define which stations this tax rule applies to. Any station matching these filters, including future ones, will be included automatically. Click + Add filter to add more than one filter. To set up filters, specify the following:

    • Apply tax rule to stations that: Select Match any filter to get stations that satisfy at least one of the specified conditions and Match all filters to get stations only when they meet all the conditions.

    • Filter: Use the drop-down to select the criteria for the group of stations you want added to the tax rule.

    • Condition: Select a condition for the filter (Contains, Does Not Contain, Is).

    • Value: Enter the criteria that matches your station grouping from the drop-down option previously selected.

    For each tax rule, you can easily apply it to all stations in a given province. To do this, select Stations from the Filter drop-down. Choose State for the filter and enter the name of the province.
  8. Click Save for the tax rule to be applied to all of the stations that match the station filters that you have selected.

    If you are not ready to push the tax rule to your stations, but you would like to save it, you can set the Status to Disabled, and then click Save. You can enable the rule later.

The newly created rule will be available in the overview tab. Click on the horizontal ellipsis (...) under the Actions parameter to view options available for editing and deleting the rule.
