Service Fees

Why is ChargePoint introducing a service fee?

To keep up with rising costs while maintaining a high-quality charging experience, ChargePoint is introducing a small service fee for charging sessions.

What is the service fee?

The service fee for a ChargePoint account holder is listed as follows:

  • $0.25 for AC Sessions

  • $0.49 for DC Sessions

For non-ChargePoint account holders, the service fee is applicable as follows:

  • $0.49 for AC sessions

  • $0.99 for DC sessions

Non-ChargePoint account holder fees apply to sessions started by anonymous users (i.e., not using the ChargePoint app or account).

How can drivers reduce or avoid the service fee?

Drivers can reduce or avoid service fee by performing the following:

  • Use a ChargePoint account to receive approximately 50% off the service fee.

  • Start a session and authenticate via the ChargePoint app, RFID card, or vehicle-integrated authentication.

  • If using third-party apps to initiate a session, check those apps for any additional charging costs.

Are there any sessions that are exempt from this fee?

Yes. The following sessions are exempted from service fees:

  • Free charging sessions or sessions that do not provide any energy.

  • Sessions completed through business connections (e.g., select workplaces or multifamily properties offering Connected driver benefits).

  • Fleet sessions paid by employers using ChargePoint fleet accounts.

  • Sessions on roaming partner stations that are not on ChargePoint’s network (e.g., EVgo, Blink).

What are the possible pricing breakdown components I should be aware of?

Drivers should be aware of the following pricing breakdown components:

  • Energy Rate: Specifies the rate calculated when the vehicle is actively charging. The rates may be determined by the station owner and/or the local regulation policies, designated for energy consumed per minute or per hour (applicable only to Canada).

  • Station Time (Parking Time) Rate: Specifies a time-based rate calculated when the vehicle is connected to the charging station.

  • Session Fee: Specifies a one-time fee applied upon initiating a charging session that is set by the station owner.

  • Minimum & Maximum Fee: Specifies a minimum and/or maximum fee that can be charged for a given session based on the pricing on a station (e.g. minimum fee $1.00, maximum fee $27.00).

  • Overstay Rate: Specifies a time-based rate calculated upon charging completion after a grace period or after the maximum parking time has been reached by the driver.

How does ChargePoint price charging sessions in North America?

ChargePoint reflects the pricing set by station owners and roaming partner networks.

Your final price will match what’s listed on the charger when utilizing a ChargePoint account or a credit card to initiate a charging session. Depending on partner agreements and intermediaries, prices may vary if the charging sessions are initiated by third party apps or accounts.

Why might the prices be different from what I see on the charger?

While we always strive for price transparency, some roaming partner station sessions are processed through third-party intermediaries, which may result in additional costs that we do not have access to.

Some drivers may also be eligible for different rates compared to others based on what prices their eMSP provider has agreed to with the CPOs.

Where can I see the exact price before charging?

If you are using a ChargePoint account, you can see pricing on the following platforms:

  • Station Screen

  • ChargePoint App

  • ChargePoint Driver Portal

If you are using a third-party app, you can check that app for pricing and session details.

Does the price include tax?

Tax rules vary by region. On ChargePoint stations, when tax is applied to the price, it will be indicated on the charger’s pricing display. With that being stated, we cannot control how tax is displayed on our app via our roaming partners, and not all may explicitly say tax is included.

Will the fees be clearly communicated?

Yes. All pricing, including service fees, will be clearly shown on the following platforms:

  • Station Screen

  • ChargePoint App (before you start a session)

  • Receipts

If you are using other third-party apps, pricing and receipts will be shown on those apps.
