Upper Heat Exchanger Assembly

To section provides instructions for replacing the upper heat exchanger assembly in the Power Block.

Assembly Components

The upper heat exchanger assembly contains the following components:

Upper Heat Exchanger

  1. Coolant reservoir with level sensor

  2. Radiator and radiator plenum

  3. Pump

Before You Begin

Before servicing the component, complete the following steps:

  1. Power off.

  2. Remove front upper panel.

AFTER REPLACING THE COMPONENTS, REVERSE THE ABOVE STEPS TO COMPLETE THE SERVICE.

Replace the Upper Heat Exchanger

  1. Disconnect the fan cables (x3) (see Upper Fan).

  2. Press the black latch on the valves (x2) and then pull them up to disconnect the hoses.

    Press the black latch on the two valves and then pull them up to disconnect the hoses.

  3. Disconnect the pump's cable. Unscrew the round connector housing and unplug the connector.

    Disconnect the pump's cable. Unscrew the round connector housing and unplug the connector.

  4. Rotate out the coolant reservoir to access the screws behind.

  5. Remove the screws (x3). If necessary, use T25 Torx screwdriver.

    Hand tight these screws when reinstalling.

    Remove the two screws. If necessary, use T25 Torx screwdriver. But, when reinstalling hand tight the screws.

  6. Lift the heat exchanger off the upper cabinet.

    Take help of a service partner to lift the component.
    Make sure to lift the heat exchanger high enough to clear the three ramps in front. If not, you may damage the hardware.

    Lift the heat exchanger off the upper cabinet.

  7. Remove the fans (see Upper Fan).

Reverse the above steps to reinstall with replacement FRUClosed Field Replaceable Unit.

Always refill or top off coolant when you service a part of the cooling system or remove, reinstall, or replace a Power Module.
